American Civilization
Reflection Statement
This is my class fro American Civilization. This course goes over all of America's history since Pre-Columbian period to the present times. It is where we look into deep examination on America's history, all of it's major social, political, economic events, issues, and themes in the period. We learn about the aspects that have shaped our history as a Nation, and how those components continue to influence our nation today. What we can learn from the class are communication skills, define major events and their significance, describe key terms and dates in US history, and advance further in preparation of academic pursuits at the university level.
What I have learned in this class is how the Boom to Bust process works. People run a business and it gains a lot of popularity during the first five to ten years. Then when the economy can't take any more money, that is when the Bust comes in. Jobs fail to keep workers, people stop buying once popular items, and society diminishes for a few years. Since many workers are fired to try and save money, there is not much work to be done, nor is there a lot of money to pay any workers, making families starve.
I also learned how the first settlers were from England because the king wanted more territory. Seems kind of ironic when they were pushed out of of America when we decided to go against the king since he was being very unfair with taxes.

I chose this assignment because the assignment was a descriptive view into how the labor laws were back then. I saw that they were not built on a strong foundation, which is why there was a revolt in the first place. That event was indeed tragic, but it gave way to a new set of laws & regulations that would greatly strengthen both worker fairness, and citizen safety as well as factory safety and sanitation. All of these are important, especially if people work in a food shop or restaurant.
